Senator Representing Imo West Local Government, Rochas Okorocha said every trace of suicide can be traced to unhappiness among the people.
The Former Imo State Governor therefore called for the creation of a ministry that will deal with the issue of happiness among the citizen.
He said reasonable steps should be taken to find out why some of these people are committing the grievous act.
According to him, all our prayers appear to me as though we are embarking on an academic exercise that might not reflect any practical reality. A step should be further taken to find out why these people are engaging in this act.
“We need to dedicate a ministry to cater for issues relating to happiness in the country. Majority of our people are not happy with the situation in the country. We need to change the way things are being carried out”
He hinted that most people commit this act due to the fact that they do not have people to confide in at times. They lack the ability to share their feelings with people around them.
“The issue cannot be addressed by any of the existing government agencies in the country.
The entire constitution of America is centred around guaranteeing the happiness of the people. I want to state that most Nigerians are not happy.”
“I think a department should be created to look into this issue. When I did create the Ministry of Happiness, it was perhaps the most misunderstood but the most effective ministry in Imo State”.
The Deputy Senate Leader, Ajayi Borrofice, urged Nigerians to be more watchful of the people that lives around them.
He however advised the Federal Government to establish counselling centres where the citizens can really open up and discuss their personal issues.
