The Christian community in Benue State under the auspices of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said it remains committed towards supporting the State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom in his defence for the Benue valley.
The Chairman of CAN, Benue state chapter, Rev. Akpen Leva said this at a memorial service held at Our Lady of Perpetual Cathedral, Makurdi to commemorate the massacre of 73 indigenes of the state last year by suspected herdsmen.
The CAN Chairman said Governors brevity and courage in the fight against herdsmen barbaric killings in the state has not only endeared him to the Christian community but history will also write his name in gold .
“We salute your courage, determination and firm stand. Your bravery and courage has made you a pacesetter in the fight against herdsmens barbaric and bastardised killings in Benue state and Nigeria at large.”
Ortom pledged to continue to partner with the church to ensure justice, fairness and equity .
“As Christians, there is need to forgive enemies of the state and work towards the growth and economic development of Benue.”
He therefore called on the people of the state not to see politics as a do or die affair but for them to have the understanding that it is God that crowns effort.
“If God does not give you, you cannot have it and you cannot fight for God. If God does not want me, no matter what I do as an incumbent, I will not have it as it is not by billboards and posters that I will win this election.”
